Several folks have asked about the portacath, what is it, where is it, how is it used, etc. Here is a self-photo of the incision area near my right shoulder, one week after insertion. The best shot is one I took through the mirror, actually, so that’s what I’m posting. You can see the outline of the triangular-shaped device under the skin. The small circular incision above is what they used to thread the catheter into the vein. The area is still slightly pink, as you can see, and a bit tender, but I’ve never needed the pain medication I was prescribed. Tylenol is all I’ve needed.

I’ve had very little side effects from the first chemotherapy session. I started getting a small dull headache before it was over which persists today but Tylenol handles it. Last night I woke up several times with short runs of tachycardia, started praying and went on back to sleep. One of my usual daily BP medications (Atenolol) covers tachycardia and I seldom have it anymore. Both of those may be side effects of the anti-nausea medications, actually. I’ll ask one the doctors. Other than that I’ve had an uneventful day, no nausea or other problems.

This afternoon I see Dr. Sonfield for a surgery FU and to get the results of the biopsy he did while implanting the portacath. Then to the hospital for a Neulasta shot (white blood cell booster). While downtown I will drop into the free wig shop behind McLeod’s and look around – they’re open today from 1-4 PM.

More later. I’m going to post “What I believe and why” in this space soon. It will also be included in http://estherspetition.wordpress.com.

Bette’s Journal

Bette Cox 2010

Christ is the "Big C" in my life!

That was told to me by a good friend recently, and it's so very true.

Jesus says in John 10:10, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."

I believe Jesus. I hope you do too.

I have one request of other believers reading this journal:

Agree with me that the invader will shrink, shrivel, die and disappear from my body, whatever method the Lord uses to accomplish that.

Thanks in advance.
